Do you ruminate or marinate?
March 30, 2020
When you hear "ruminating", what does that feel like to you? What about "marinating"?
I feel like we ruminate on the negative things that happen to us, especially as we beat ourselves up with self-talk.
That’s a different energy vibration than marinating, which to me is a process of soaking in something positive.
I guess you could use these words interchangeable, but the point that jumped out to me is negative vs positive….fear vs hope.
I do way less ruminating by replacing it with a habit of marinating. Sometimes I marinate on a thought that I don't yet understand. For instance, when I failed at relationships I would ruminate on my short-coming. Today, I'm currently marinating on ways to collaborate within relationships.
I also marinate on questions that don't have an immediate answer. I used to avoid asking myself questions when I didn't have a good answer. Today, I give myself permission to ask myself questions that are growth-oriented and expansive. For instance,
How can I <<insert something I desire>>?
-- vs --
Why can’t I <<insert something failure-based>>?
What if I <<insert something hope-based>>?
-- vs --
What if <<insert something fear-based>>?
