Do you ruminate or marinate?

When you hear "ruminating", what does that feel like to you?  What about "marinating"?

I feel like we ruminate on the negative things that happen to us, especially as we beat ourselves up with self-talk.

That’s a different energy vibration than marinating, which to me is a process of soaking in something positive.

I guess you could use these words interchangeable, but the point that jumped out to me is negative vs positive….fear vs hope. 

I do way less ruminating by replacing it with a habit of marinating.  Sometimes I marinate on a thought that I don't yet understand.  For instance, when I failed at relationships I would ruminate on my short-coming.  Today, I'm currently marinating on ways to collaborate within relationships.

I also marinate on questions that don't have an immediate answer. I used to avoid asking myself questions when I didn't have a good answer.  Today, I give myself permission to ask myself questions that are growth-oriented and expansive.  For instance,

How can I <<insert something I desire>>?
-- vs --
Why can’t I <<insert something failure-based>>?

What if I <<insert something hope-based>>?
-- vs --
What if <<insert something fear-based>>?
