Boating

April 18, 2021

Easter week in San Jose is a major vacation period.  Similar to Christmas week or Spring Break or July 4th or Thanksgiving in the US.  I was surprised at how empty the city felt.  At least 50% fewer cars.  So many people leave the city for the week and spend time together as a family.

Alex's brother Mauricio has a 28 ft Boston Whaler at Los Suenos marina, which is 1-2hrs from San Jose depending on traffic.  He loves to fish, but he also enjoys the casual day out on the water.  And the Easter holiday week was our chance to join him.

It was a family affair.  12 of us in all. Alex's brothers Mauricio and Mountfred and their families.  Also Alex's parents.  We met at the marina at 10am, and drove about 1hr across the bay to a set of islands.  Lots of boats were anchored out.  This reminded me so much of a Saturday at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Except I'm usually the captain hosting the crew, and this time that was Mauricio's role.  I got to relax as a passenger (which was kind of strange).

We swam and enjoyed drinks and conversation in the sun.  Mauricio had made some ceviche as well from fresh Maui Maui out of the ocean.  Yum!  I can eat ceviche every day.

We pulled up anchor and headed to an island restaurant for lunch.  Very nice!  They have about 10 cabinas for rental, and it was quite the island getaway.  I enjoyed some red snapper and a nap in the shade.

After lunch, it was an hour back to the marina and we called it a day.  Now this is the good life!
